Washington County

This area combines history, rural charm, and a host of modern conveniences.  It is comprised of many beautiful small towns and villages which include Argyle, Cambridge, Dresden, Easton, Fort Ann, Fort Edward, Granville, Greenwich, Hampton, Hartford, Hebron, Hudson Falls, Jackson, Kingsbury, Putnam, Salem, White Creek, and Whitehall.

Named after President George Washington and known as the birthplace of the United States Navy (Whitehall), Washington County is predominantly agricultural and is one of the state's largest dairy counties. Apples and maple syrup are also a large cash crop contributor for this area. Granville is known as the 'Colored Slate Capital of the World' where many homes boast these unique slate accents.

This locale is a thriving musical and arts landscape. Hubbard Hall in Cambridge hosts a wide array of events from music concerts to dance performances and theater productions. It is a great way to experience artistic talent at all levels! There are numerous parks, trails and campsites to choose from for the outdoor enthusiasts.

If antiquing is something that you enjoy, there are no shortages of antique shops in this region. Well known regionally for being significant historically dating back to the American Revolutionary War,  treasure hunters have found collectibles from various periods including jewelry, art, books, furniture, and more.

The Washington County Fair is a popular venue that is held annually for over a century now. This agricultural event is held in late August. Located at the fairgrounds in Easton, this large festival hosts many different activities including tractor pulls, live music performances, demolition derbies, many livestock events, domestic arts, farming, and crafts. The educational opportunities are plentiful including farming and rural living. There is no shortage of amusement rides, games, a variety of food vendors, and merchandise booths.

Whether you are looking for a delicious homemade burger in a pub-style atmosphere (Green Acres Tavern- Greenwich), a unique farm-to-table dining event (Dancing Ewe Farm - Granville),  or a cozy  meal in a charming historic 19th century renovated blacksmith home with vintage decor (The Anvil Inn - Fort Edward),  there are many options out there for you to enjoy!
