General Electric (GE) employs approximately 4,000 people at its Schenectady campus, making it one of the largest employers in the area. Two reputable colleges are Union College and SUNY Schenectady. Each offers specialized programs. Union is known for engineering, leadership and innovation, and liberal arts. SUNY offers a variety of majors, including business, criminal justice, computer science, music, performing arts, health sciences, culinary arts, and workforce development.


The Empire State Aerosciences Museum, located at the Schenectady County Airport in Glenville, features antique and contemporary military and civilian aircraft. Permanent, revolving, and interactive displays attract visitors of all ages in learning all about the history of aviation, from early flights to space exploration.


Proctors Theatre first opened its doors in 1926, offering vaudeville-themed entertainment. Since then, it has transformed and expanded into a venue hosting a wide range of concerts, films, Broadway shows, comedy acts, and community events. Proctors has also extended its live performances to other locations such as the GE Theatre and the Addy Theatre.


Nature seekers will enjoy all that Plotter Kill Preserve in Rotterdam has to offer. This 632-acre protected forest provides public access to spectacular views of 3 different waterfalls. Several miles of marked hiking trails accommodate both novice and experienced hikers.


Rivers Casino sits along the Mohawk River and hosts several amenities including dining, gaming, live entertainment, events, and conferences.


There are plenty of breweries to choose from in this region, which has a growing craft beer scene. Frog Alley Brewing Company offers a wide range of brews, including IPAs, stouts, and lagers. Great Flats Brewing presents styles such as pale ales, IPAs, and sours. Wolf Hollow Brewing Company serves a variety of options, including porters, ales, and Kolsch. Back Barn Brewing Company is a family-owned brewery situated on a historic farm, featuring a rustic taproom and a relaxed atmosphere.
