Herkimer County

Nestled within the Mohawk Valley, this area is rural and offers several pleasantly old-fashioned villages and towns in it’s 1,458 square mile radius. It is strategically located near the New York State Thruway, making it very convenient for commuting to other larger cities. Agriculture, manufacturing, tourism and small business are predominant industries in this region.

Herkimer College, which is part of the SUNY system has been ranked as among the top for two-year colleges in the nation based on it’s transfer and graduation rates.

It is the home to ‘Herkimer Diamonds’ which are actually quartz crystals with a diamondesque appearance that can be found locally in mines.

The cost of living here is lower than the national average making it a more affordable place to live. According to Zillow, in 2024  the average home price was $185,698 which was a 6.6% increase for the previous year.  Overall, homes remain on the market for about 46-80 days depending on the time of year and market conditions.
